A VIDEO BOOK Exploring the Dharma Art
of Mindful Intelligence (Read a short overview)
Ten hours. Thirty-seven chapters. 61 bonus clips. One sustained exploration of consciousness, freedom, love, creativity, courage, mortality, and the art of living awake in an increasingly uncertain world.
Awakening World Dharma: Liberation Through Living is not a conventional audiobook, documentary, meditation course, or collection of spiritual teachings. It is a carefully curated 10 hour Video Book—an immersive encounter with Alan Clements and a lifetime of experiential inquiry into one essential question:
How do we become more fully conscious, compassionate, courageous, and free—and bring that freedom into the way we actually live?
Drawing upon more than five decades of meditation, Buddhist psychology, writing, human-rights activism, investigative journalism, artistic exploration, intimate relationship, political upheaval, illness, mortality, and the ordinary magnificence of being alive, Clements brings contemplative inquiry out of abstraction and into direct human experience.
This is World Dharma: not another belief system, ideology, religion, or spiritual identity, but an invitation to discover what is true through awareness itself—and then to embody that discovery through the choices we make, the relationships we enter, the words we speak, the art we create, and the world we help bring into being.

FROM MONASTIC SILENCE INTO THE WORLD
Alan Clements’ exploration of consciousness began more than fifty years ago and eventually took him to Burma, now Myanmar, where he ordained as a Buddhist monk and undertook years of intensive meditation training at the Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha in Yangon.
But his life would take him far beyond the monastery.
After being expelled from Burma by the military dictatorship in 1984, Clements began exploring what happens when the clarity cultivated in contemplative practice encounters the unprotected realities of human existence: love and loss, politics and propaganda, freedom and oppression, creativity and sexuality, war and displacement, altered states, aging and mortality, and the struggle to remain inwardly free in a world increasingly shaped by distraction, fear, conformity, and division.
The result became what Clements calls World Dharma—the meeting place between inner freedom and outer responsibility.
This Video Book is a distillation of that journey.
AWAKENING IN THE WORLD WE ACTUALLY INHABIT
Rather than asking us to withdraw from life, Awakening World Dharma asks us to become increasingly intimate with it.
Across thirty-seven chapters, Clements explores awareness not simply as a meditation technique, but as a living intelligence: our capacity to recognize what is happening within us and around us without immediately surrendering perception to conditioning, ideology, fear, authority, habit, or inherited belief.
The inquiry moves between meditation and relationship, consciousness and politics, psychological conditioning and creative freedom, compassion and courage, intimacy and solitude, mortality and meaning. It asks how we might reclaim the authority of direct experience while remaining capable of doubt, curiosity, humility, tenderness, humor, and change.
At its heart is a deceptively simple proposition: life experience itself can become our greatest teacher.
Awakening, therefore, is not somewhere else. It is here—in perception, in the body, in relationship, in uncertainty, in conflict, in beauty, in grief, in conscience, and in the maddening miracle that, for this brief and immeasurably precious moment, we are alive.
THE DHARMA ART OF MINDFUL INTELLIGENCE
The Video Book offers a contemporary approach to contemplative inquiry grounded in awareness rather than dogma.
Across the ten-hour journey, Clements explores meditation and consciousness; freedom from psychological and ideological conditioning; Buddhist psychology and mindfulness; compassion and emotional intelligence; creativity and authentic expression; love, intimacy and relationship; human rights and freedom of conscience; propaganda and authoritarianism; courage and nonviolent action; mortality and impermanence; and the possibility of transforming spiritual understanding into an embodied way of living.
These are not doctrines to accept. They are invitations to investigate.
The viewer is encouraged to question everything—including the teacher, the teaching, and one’s own most cherished assumptions.
A LIFETIME OF INQUIRY, DISTILLED
Awakening World Dharma emerges from an unusual journey through some of the defining spiritual, personal, and political landscapes of the last half-century.
Clements’ life has moved from intensive Buddhist monastic practice in Burma to witnessing dictatorship and political violence; from conversations with Aung San Suu Kyi to encounters with refugees and survivors of war; from meditation halls to stages, universities, human-rights forums, books, films, spoken-word performances, intimate relationships, altered states, serious illness, and direct encounters with mortality.
These seemingly different worlds converge around a fundamental inquiry:
Can awareness become action? Can inner freedom become lived freedom? Can wisdom become a way of inhabiting the world?
The Video Book does not attempt to answer those questions for you. It creates a space in which you can investigate them for yourself.
A COMPANION FOR LIVING
The thirty-seven chapters can be experienced consecutively as a ten-hour journey or entered individually and returned to over time.
Pause. Reflect. Question. Take an inquiry into meditation, relationship, creative work, activism, or simply into the next ordinary day of your life.
The intention is not to accumulate more spiritual information. It is to deepen the intimacy and intelligence of your own inquiry.
Because ultimately World Dharma points toward something no book, teacher, institution, technology, or tradition can possess on your behalf:
your own capacity to be aware.

Begin anywhere. Return whenever needed. Bring the inquiry back to the only place awakening can actually occur: the life you are living now.
Awakening World Dharma rests upon a basic recognition: life experience is our greatest teacher and therefore our genuine source for spiritual awakening. It is awareness that liberates, not a teacher, nor a doctrine, nor a form.”
Alan Clements
